MARONDERA- The Government last week declared Chivhu bus accident which claimed 13
lives at the 5 kilometre peg along Chivhu-Murambinda Road where a Timboom bus crashed a
national disaster.
Twelve people died on the spot while another one passed on while admitted at Chivhu
Hospital.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona led a delegation
that toured the accident scene and visited those who were injured.
Bereaved families were also consoled.
Minister Mhona was accompanied by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution
for Mashonaland East Dr Aplonia Munzverengi, officials from Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructural Development and members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, among others.
He said the Government will continue to put in place measures to ensure that motorists
adhere to road rules and regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
“It is sad for people to lose lives in such a manner and the Government will enforce measures
that ensure that such sad traffic incidences do not happen. Preliminary investigations by the
police indicate that the accident was a result of speeding on the part of the driver,” he said.
The police have since released the names of the 13 people who died in the accident.
They are Lilian Vimbai Faith Taranhike (30) of Manyame Airbase, Esnath Taruvinga (75) of
Mupoperi village in Buhera, Jenifer Rima(64) of Choga vilage, Chief Nerutanga, Buhera,
Zakariya Makonese (51) of Chitete village under Chief Neshangwe, Irene Chikwati of
Murambinda Growth Point, Beatrice Nyambira (48) from Morris Depot, Tafadzwa Rerai
(30), of Mudinzwa Village, Chief Nyashanu, Gwatidzo Maria (43) of Mandinika Village,
Chief Nerutanga in Buhera, Esinath Mubaiwa (62) from Kukuroja Cooperative in Hatcliffe,
Harare, Matsivo Lovemore (31) of Skyview, Chivhu, Clive Zvenyika (40) from Murambinda
Growth Point, Flora Malungeni (46) of Gwatidzo village, Chief Nerutanga, Buhera and
Percylin Chitondwe (36) of Murambinda Mission Hospital.
