Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe’s ruling party on Friday increased its parliamentary election lead to 17 seats, against 11 for its nearest rival, according to latest partial results announced by the country’s electoral body.

The results for the general election, held on Wednesday, were being announced in batches where counting and collating of the votes had been completed.

In the election, voters chose a new president, and parliamentary and local government representatives for the next five years.

In the latest batch of results, Zanu-PF won in four of seven constituencies declared, taking its tally of parliamentary seats won to 17.

The main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party won the remaining three constituencies to bring its total to 11.

So far, the results, and unofficial projections, indicate the election was a two-horse race between the two parties.

According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Zanu-PF won the Sanyati, Mutoko South, Mutoko North and Mutoko East constituencies, but lost the Seke, Kadoma Central and Bulawayo South seats to CCC.
