    Parliamentarians swearing in ceremony Thursday

    Harare (New Ziana) – The swearing in ceremony for the new Members of Parliament and the Senate has been set for Thursday, Clerk of Parliament, Kennedy Chokuda has announced.

    Chokuda made the announcement in a general notice in an extra ordinary government gazette on Oath of Member of Parliament in terms of the Provisions of Section 128 (1) in terms of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

    “It is hereby notified that, in terms of section 128 (1) of the Constitution, the day and time for Members of Parliament to make and subscribe to the oath of a Member of Parliament before the Clerk of Parliament in the form set out in the Third Schedule to the Constitution shall be –(a) ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 7th of September, 2023, for Members of the National Assembly; and (b) half past two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 7th of September, 2023, for Members of the Senate; at the Parliament Building, Harare,” read the notice.

    Following the recent general elections, 176 ZANU (PF) candidates successfully made it to Parliament while the opposition CCC has 103 candidates that won their constituencies. In senate, ZANU (PF) has 33 senators and the CCC has 27. The 80 senators from the two political parties will be joined by 18 chiefs and two representatives of people with disabilities.
