Harare (New Ziana) – All roads lead to the Harare Gardens on Monday (September 18) where Zimbabwe’s initiatives in advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) would be on display.
The exhibition is being held by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, United Nations Zimbabwe, other government ministries, private sector, civil society organisations, trade unions, youth groups and partners. The SDGs were adopted by United Nations Member states in 2015.
The SDGs Exhibition will run concurrently with the SDG Summit which will be held in New York from 18-19 September, 2023 where Zimbabwe’s delegation is being led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The summit is being convened under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly.
Official opening of the SGDs exhibition at the Harare Gardens by the Secretary for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Simon Masanga and the UN resident coordinator, Edward Kallon will start at 12 noon on Monday 18 Septemberr.
The 17 SDGs, which are all interconnected and interlinked, are a call to end poverty, create peace and care for the planet.
This year is also significant as it marks the half way to the 2030 Agenda and the National Development Strategy 1. Zimbabwe has recorded significant progress in a number of the SDGs which include SDGs 1, 2, 3 and 4 among others.
The SDG Exhibition, which starts at 9am, aims to galvanise people to action, leaving no one and no place behind. The Exhibition will be open to the public for free.There will be entertainment galore and performance by musicians.
