CHINHOYI – The Mapako Carnival event organisers on Tuesday launched the event in
    conjunction with Platinum FM.
The event is mainly centered on attracting more tourists to Chinhoyi and the Chinhoyi
    caves.
The event is being organised by the Sprout Media in partnership with the Chinhoyi
    University of Technology (CUT).
Chinhoyi University Dean of Students, who is also the event co-ordinator gave a brief
background of the concept, saying that this actually supports the education 5.0
    programme.
“This is in line with the education 5.0 programme, where students are supposed to bring
what they learn in the classroom to the industry and the task was given to the first year
Tourism and Hospitality students to come up with a concept that can allow them to
practice what they have been learning,” said Dr Nelson Zengeni.
The event is going to be for three days and the headline will just be food and drink.
Brain Vengai, who is the events manager, says that on all the three days there will be
    different activities.
“The carnival is going to start on October 26 to 28. The headline event will be food and
drink, and then Thursday is the day for traditional dances and arts exhibition. Friday
there is going to be a Miss Culture modeling competition and Saturday is the main event
where there will be a march from CUT main campus to Orange Groove and the main
event will be at the Chinhoyi Caves,” said Vengai.
The co-ordinator, Dr Zengeni, and his event planner, Tapiwanashe Makuni, say that this
is a huge opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent and show what Chinhoyi
carries because on each day of the event there will be a number of artists and live
bands performing at the carnival with Thursday being a special day for artists since it
    will be a jazz night.
