KARIBA -FOUR people died in Lake Kariba after their motorised boat capsised on
    Saturday last week.
The four drowned near Tsetse Island, Lake Kariba around noon on September 16.
Among them were two soldiers and two fishermen.
Police retrieved the bodies and they were identified and the next of kin were informed.
The bodies were conveyed to Kariba District Hospital mortuary for post mortem.
National Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, announced the
names of the four victims as Sergeant Tatenda Nekati (36), Corporal Nxobile Ncube, of
the Zimbabwe National Army and the two fishermen, Trust Phiri (24) of Chilimba Village
Negande and Adson Mupiringano (40) of Batonga, Kariba.
When the boat capsized, five people were on board, but only one person managed to
survive after clinging to an empty 20 litre plastic container. He was eventually before
being rescued by other fishermen after two hours.
The first body was retrieved from the water on Sunday September 17 and the three
other bodies on Monday, September 18.
It is suspected that the boat could have been overloaded as it has a carrying capacity of
two people instead of the five it was carrying.
The police urged the public to be safety conscious when using dinghy boats.
