GWANDA Jacaranda residents have spent three weeks without running tap water
due to gravitation, a negative development that is worrying people.
Jacaranda is the only elite Suburb in Gwanda where the who’s who stay. The suburb
is located on a mountain view.
However, the water crisis deepened over recent weeks following electricity load-
shedding.
Gwanda Mayor, Councillor Thulani Moyo, allayed residents fears saying everything
was under control.
“I am aware of the Jacaranda water crisis but we have since addressed the problem.
Those residents especially those closer to the mountain are affected by gravitation.
“Secondly, our pumps are too small and the pressure to fill up Jacaranda is low
hence we are planning to connect to the 5 mega Spitzkop tank.
“Jacaranda is connected together with the CBD, where we are having a valve
problem whereby water ends up going back to town instead of servicing Jacaranda.
"However, we are pumping 24 hours to make sure that Jacaranda is filled up,”
explained the Mayor.
Former Town Clerk, Jackson Mlilo, said that the water crisis is worse than electricity.
Another resident, Tyson Moyo, complained bitterly saying council is failing to deliver.
“May the authorities and city fathers come to our rescue here at Jacaranda. It has
been three full weeks without tap water.
"Can we be told where exactly the problem is rather than to be kept in the dark.
“Some of the new councillors were vocal before going to chambers and now they are
in and are now voiceless,” observed Tyson Moyo.
The municipality is now running the water treatment plant, which they were battling
to wrest from the Zimbabwe National Water Authority, (ZINWA).
