The Zimbabwe Republic Police will get training assistance and modern policing technology from Belarus following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed by Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Kazembe Kazembe and his Belarus counterpart, Minister of the Interior, Ivan Kubrakov at a brief ceremony before President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.
Also present were a number of Zimbabwean Cabinet Ministers, Police Commissioner-General, Godwin Matanga and several top ZRP officers.
Briefing the media soon after the ceremony, Kazembe said the signing of the MoU followed a visit that he made to the East European country last November during which the two Ministries agreed to cooperate in policing, among other areas.
“We have agreed to cooperate in training and exchange of technology so we are very happy that the discussion that started in Belarus has come to fruition, courtesy of our two Heads of State,” he said.
“I want to thank my colleague Minister, Kubrakov for coming to visit with a high powered delegation for the conclusion of this MoU and we are going to be taking them around to have a feel of our security situation and an appreciation of our level of training in the country.”
