MARONDERA– Police in Mashonaland East are investigating a recent robbery case at a school in Hwedza, where thieves made off with 12 new laptops and other valuable items.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi Police confirmed the incident, stating that the total value of the stolen items exceeded US$6000, and that none of the stolen property had been recovered at the time of writing.

It is reported that on February 18 around midnight, the school headmaster who was sleeping in the staff quarters, heard an explosion in the administration block and immediately went to investigate.

“Upon arrival, he noticed a light and movement inside the room, prompting him to alert other teachers, neighbours, and his superior at the district office. A police report was filed at ZRP Wedza who attended the scene but the robbers had already made off with their loot,” Commissioner Nyathi said.

Initial investigations showed that the unknown suspects had broken the main door of the administration block, stole two cellphones, and proceeded to a strong room where they blasted open a Chubb safe using suspected dynamite.

The suspects made off with 12 boxed laptops from the strong room
