Harare,  (New Ziana) – The government will start disbursing the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) during the second week of next month, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Since the beginning of the Tenth Parliament in 2023, legislators have not received Constituency Development Funds due to budgetary constraints.

The CDF is a government grant for allocating resources to all 210 constituencies in the country to support developmental projects that address the needs of communities.

Responding to questions in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube assured that 71 constituencies would receive the first tranche of CDF payments.

“I am pleased to report that after a long process of administrative work in the background, we have kind of worked out things such as vendor numbers and so forth. We have finally been able to allocate vendor numbers for 71 constituencies. The disbursements of those funds will occur soon. Certainly, I have been assured that by the end of next week, there will be quite a bit of movement in the disbursement of these funds. “Let us work on the date of 10th April to begin these payments,” he said.

Prof Ncube added: “I do hope the Hon Members are among those who have submitted their requests and projects and are ready to go. I hope they have done that. If they have not, they should do so, so that they can benefit from the CDF funding.”
