Harare, (New Ziana) –All is set for the 45th Independence Day celebrations to be held this Friday as preparations are nearing completion, with Nembudziya Growth Point in Gokwe North district, the Midlands province having undergone tremendous transformation over the past few months.

The event, running under the theme “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030”, underscores the ongoing commitment of the government to inclusive development and national unity.

In an update after the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere highlighted the extensive infrastructure development that has reshaped the host district.

“The preparatory works for this milestone celebration are almost complete, and Nembudziya has undergone a remarkable transformation,”

“From state-of-the-art sports facilities to upgraded educational institutions and modernised road networks, the district is a shining example of our devolution agenda in action,” he said.

Among the flagship developments is a newly constructed football stadium, featuring changing rooms, terraces and floodlights while solarised boreholes have also been drilled to ensure a sustainable water supply for the community.

Muswere said the education sector has seen significant improvements, with legacy projects completed at Nembudziya Government High School, Nyamuroro High School, Nyamuroro Primary School, and the Nyamuroro Vocational Training Centre.

These projects, he added, encompass new classroom blocks, science laboratories, teachers’ accommodation, ablution facilities, and infrastructure for School Business Units.

He said refurbishments have enhanced the external ambience of the schools, with renovated buildings and upgraded water and sanitation systems.

To ensure seamless access to the venue, road infrastructure in Gokwe North and South, as well as surrounding provinces, has been extensively upgraded.

The surfacing of Nembudziya Growth Point, rehabilitation of the Kadoma-Sanyati-Nembudziya Road, and the re-gravelling of routes such as Gokwe-Jahana, Chakari, Hovani, Copper Queen, and Jakani roads have greatly improved connectivity to major centres including Gokwe Town, Chinhoyi, Binga, and Kadoma.

“Our focus has been on ensuring that the venue is not only ready for the celebrations, but also leaves a lasting legacy for the people of Nembudziya and surrounding communities,” Muswere said.

Other notable developments include the renovation of the mortuary at Nembudziya Hospital, installation and upgrading of 3G and 4G base stations, training of local communities in digital skills, and the establishment of a telemedicine clinic.

In honour of the nation’s liberation history, 132 graves at heroes’ shrines across the Midlands province are being adorned with concrete slabs.

A field museum and memorial plinth have been completed at the historic Sikombela Restriction Camp, while other key heritage sites such as Connemara Prison and Mutapa Hall have been refurbished.

With logistical arrangements, cultural showcases, and sporting events all firmly on track, Zimbabwe is poised for a vibrant and memorable 45th Independence Day celebration.
