Harare,  (New Ziana) – A Harare magistrate has sentenced a 36 year old man from Mufakose high density suburb to three months imprisonment for unlawful possession and distribution of dangerous drugs.

According to the National Prosecution Authority, Norman Chirume was found to have been manufacturing and selling marijuana‑laced chocolates, commonly known on the streets as “Ganja chocolates”, targeting the youth in his community.

On January 16 this year, after obtaining a warrant, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department’s Drugs and Narcotics Unit searched Chirume’s home following a tip off that he was producing and marketing the illicit sweets.

During the raid, officers seized 270 prepared Ganja chocolates, 75 nuggets of dagga contained in brown trays, multiple chocolate bars, aluminum foil, trays, and loose marijuana.

Preliminary forensic tests confirmed the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the seized chocolates.

All items were forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory, where they were formally analysed and subsequently admitted as evidence in court.
