Harare, (New Ziana) – The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) received ZWG52.1 million this week from treasury for wheat payments, bringing the total disbursements to farmers to ZWG282.1 million and US$33 million.
The funds, which have now been fully cleared, are part of the government’s ongoing support to bolster wheat production and enhance national food self-sufficiency.
In a statement, GMB chief executive officer, Dr Edson Badarai expressed gratitude to the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr. Anxious Masuka, for his instrumental role in securing the financial resources from Treasury.
“The Grain Marketing Board has received ZWG52.1 million for wheat payments this week bringing total payments for wheat deliveries to ZWG 282 1 million and USD 33 million which has since been cleared. “The Board greatly appreciates the support given by the Hon. Minister of Lands, Agriculture. Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Dr. A. J. Masuka in facilitating disbursement of financial resources from Treasury,” said Badarai.
The latest tranche is expected to bring relief to farmers across the country, many of whom rely on prompt payments to reinvest in production.
Badarai reaffirmed GMB’s commitment to working closely with the agricultural community to promote sustainable wheat production and ensure that Zimbabwe remains on course towards wheat-based food self-sufficiency.
