    Two arrested for possessing dagga

    Two men from Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge were arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police in Featherstone after they were found in possession of compressed dagga weighing 41kg.

    Tafadzwa Vhandero, aged 28, and Obey Ngalube,26 were arrested on July 22 by police on patrol along the Harare-Masvingo highway around 2:30am.

    Police came across a blue Honda fit parking by the roadside just after passing Wadjiwa Wamira Shops and approached the two suspects.

    Upon seeing police approaching their vehicle, the two sped off towards Harare resulting in a high speed chase.

    The patrol team alerted ZRP Beatrice about the chase and they quickly mounted a roadblock at the 54km peg along Harare-Masvingo to intercept the suspects’ vehicle.

    When the suspects saw the roadblock ahead of them and they made a quick U-turn and drove to-wards Featherstone. The two police teams teamed up and pursued the suspects’ vehicle.

    According to police report, the suspects turned west into a dust road towards Featherstone Mountain at the 103km peg. They drove about 10km and stopped the vehicle before fleeing in different directions, abandoning their car.

    Police officers pursued them on foot and managed to apprehend one of the suspects. Upon returning to the suspects’ vehicle, they conducted a search and found three plastics stashed with com-pressed dagga.

    The second suspect returned to check on his friend after a few minutes, leading to his subsequent arrest.

    The car and dagga were seized by ZRP Featherstone as exhibit. Police said investigations are underway.
