Harare, (New Ziana) – A total of 352.7 million kilogrammes of tobacco worth US$1.17 billion was produced and marketed so far this year at an average price of $3.32 per kg, an increase of 52.7 percent in volume compared to last year, data released by the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board on day 107 of tobacco auctions on August 6, 2025 show.

The tobacco fetched the highest price of $6.30 per kg and the lowest of $0.10 per kilogramme.

During the same period in 2024, 230.8 million kg of the golden leaf worth US$791.7 million went under the hammer at an average price of $3.43 per kilogramme.

In the entire 2024 cropping season, the country produced 230.9 million kilograms.

Tobacco is Zimbabwe’s largest agricultural export, providing a significant source of foreign currency for the country.

At least 90 percent of the locally produced tobacco is, however, exported in semi-processed form and calls are growing for value to be added to the crop.
