Harare, (New Ziana) – Police have intensified a manhunt for a robber who was part of the duo that broke into a Springville home in Ruwa and stole more than US$182 000 in cash and other valuables.
The break-in took place on June 6, and the suspects also made off with a Samsung S23 Ultra cellphone, a Derya pistol, and two magazines that were loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
One of the suspects, 28-year-old Blessing Kennes has since been apprehended and is assisting the police with investigations, while his alleged accomplice, Glademore Fambauone, is on the run.
Police spokesman, Paul Nyathi, said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Blessing Kennes (28) in connection with cases of unlawful entry into premises and theft, which occurred at a house in Springville, Ruwa, on 6th June 2025, where cash and valuables worth US$190 000 were stolen.
“The suspect, along with his accomplice, Remember Glademore Fambauone, who is yet to be arrested, allegedly broke into the house and stole US$182,050 in cash. Detectives from the CID Homicide unit launched a manhunt after receiving crucial intelligence. On 13th August 2025, they cornered Kennes in the Tsiga area of Mbare, where he was subsequently arrested, leading to the recovery of US$20 250 (R366,000) in cash and a Derya Pistol.”
He said investigators also seized a Toyota Nadia, which was allegedly purchased with part of the stolen funds as Kennes and Fambauone had already started spending the money.
“Investigations revealed that Fambauone used part of the cash to buy a property in Crowhill, Harare, for US$10 000. He also purchased a Nissan NV350 for US$14 300 and gave US$5 600 to his mother for safekeeping in Minundirwa Village, Rusape,” Nyathi added.
Police have since recovered a total of US$55 150 in cash and property linked to the case.
