Government tours interchange project, notes steady progress

The Government on Monday conducted a tour of the construction works at the state-of-the-art road interchange at the busy Don Brooke and Mutare Road intersection in Harare, a development aimed at reducing congestion and curbing accidents that had become common at the site.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, who led the delegation, said the project was part of the Second Republic’s comprehensive drive to modernise the country’s road network under the stewardship of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“This interchange will not only ease traffic flow but also save lives by significantly reducing accidents which have been occurring frequently at this intersection,” Minister Mhona said. “The Second Republic is determined to provide world-class infrastructure that matches the aspirations of our people and the vision of a modernised Zimbabwe.”

The interchange, described as a “mini-Trabablas” in reference to Zimbabwe’s largest road interchange, is expected to be completed by July 2026.

The Minister assured the public that contractors, Premium Rocks, were already working around the clock to deliver the project within schedule.

“Premium Rocks have a proven track record and a reputation for reliability. They have demonstrated strong work ethics on past projects, and we are confident they will once again deliver to the highest standards,” said Minister Mhona.

The Don Brooke–Mutare Road interchange is one of several flagship infrastructural projects being implemented across the country, aimed at easing urban mobility, stimulating economic growth, and enhancing road safety.

Minister Mhona added that such projects testify to the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa and his Government’s commitment to improving people’s lives through tangible development.

“This interchange is not an isolated effort. It is part of a broader infrastructure revolution being rolled out nationwide. Our roads are not just about travel; they are about trade, connectivity, investment, and national pride,” the Minister said.

Once completed, the interchange is expected to dramatically reduce travel time and accidents along one of the busiest arteries leading into Harare.
