Harare, (New Ziana) – Bitumen World has announced that a section of the busy Masvingo–Beitbridge highway will be closed to traffic this Friday to allow for scheduled rock blasting works.
In a statement on Wednesday, the company said the closure will affect the stretch of road near Ngundu between the 90km and 106km peg, where the contractor is carrying out widening and reconstruction works on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development.
According to the company, blasting will specifically target rock formations close to Chivake River Bridge at the 101.2km peg and another site about six kilometres south of Ngundu Village at the 103.8km peg.
Motorists have been advised to take note of the planned closure, which is expected to last for up to one hour between midday and 1pm. The shutdown will enable the safe detonation and clearing of debris before the road is reopened to traffic.
The Masvingo–Beitbridge highway is a key route for both domestic and regional traffic, and the upgrade project is part of the government’s broader programme to modernize national road infrastructure.
