Second National Retirement Conference to be held in Bulawayo this Week

Harare,  (New Ziana) – The second edition of the two-day conference aimed at fostering a culture of retirement preparedness across all sectors of the economy is set to kick off in Bulawayo on Wednesday, the Public Service Commission has said.

Held under the theme “Retirement Planning in Action: Transforming Insights into Realities,” the conference, to be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds, seeks to elevate national discourse around retirement planning and provide practical solutions for a sustainable, dignified life after work.

“The Public Service Commission is pleased to announce the Second Edition of the Retirement Conference, scheduled to take place from September 24-26, 2025, at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo. ”

This national event aims to promote awareness on the importance of Retirement Planning and provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss retirement preparedness and develop effective retirement programs,” the PSC said in a statement.

It said this year’s edition is expected to attract a diverse array of participants from both the public and private sectors, including policymakers, industry experts, financial institutions, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and advocacy groups.

“The Conference aligns with Zimbabwe’s national economic development frameworks, particularly the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) by fostering collaboration and innovation in retirement planning, ensuring that diverse insights contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive retirement system for all, and is expected to attract participants from across all sectors of the economy,” it said.

Key expected outcomes of the conference include increased awareness on the importance of early retirement planning, capacity building for institutions and individuals, and stronger stakeholder commitment across sectors.

Running parallel to the main conference will be an Exhibition Park, where businesses and organisations will showcase products and services tailored to retirees. From pension products and financial advisory services to wellness programs and lifestyle innovations, the Exhibition Park is set to become a hub for inspiration and practical support, the PSC said.

“The Exhibition Park adds a vibrant dimension to the conference, allowing participants to engage directly with service providers and explore tools that support financial security, health, and well-being in retirement,” it said.

The PSC said it is inviting public institutions, private companies, development partners, Non-Governmental Organisations, as well as small to medium enterprises to take part in both the conference and the exhibition, either as attendees, exhibitors, or panelists, stakeholders are encouraged to contribute toward shaping a more secure retirement future for Zimbabwe’s workforce.

“This is more than a conference — it is a national call to action. Together, we can promote financial security, health, well-being, and social support for retirees, thereby reinforcing the nation’s commitment to dignified aging and economic resilience,” it said.

With momentum building around retirement planning as a national priority, the second edition of the retirement conference represents a critical opportunity to translate policy insights into tangible results. As Zimbabwe seeks to develop a more inclusive and robust retirement system, such platforms are key to unlocking lasting socio-economic impact.
