Harare, (New Ziana) – Cutty Sark Hotel, one of the oldest tourism facilities in Kariba, will host US$100,000 Tag Fishing Challenge on September 26-27, 2025. Dumbed the Cutty Sark Tag Fishing Challenge, the two-day event on Lake Kariba is one of Zimbabwe’s premier fishing competitions, offering participants a chance to win the huge grand prize, the hotel said on Tuesday.

A tagged tiger fish will be released near Antelope and Red Cliff islands, less than 5 kilometres from the Cutty Sark Hotel mainland, on September 25, 2025, the day before the competition.

To claim the grand prize, participants must catch this tagged fish using a rod and line. The competition welcomes all registered participants, with additional prizes for the largest bream, largest tiger fish, and largest other species caught.

Lake Kariba, one of the world’s largest man-made lakes, was created in the 1950s by the construction of the Kariba Dam on the Zambezi River. It is renowned for its diverse fish population, particularly tiger fish, making it a popular destination for anglers.

The area also offers stunning scenery and wildlife, contributing to its appeal as a major tourist attraction in Zimbabwe.
