Harare, (New Ziana) -Special Olympics Zimbabwe (SOZ) plans to hold a Fundraising Golf Day on October 16 this year, as part of its efforts to raise money for the upcoming 2026 National Games in Masvingo.
The event will take place at the Royal Harare Golf Club and aims to bring together the corporate community, individuals, and sports lovers in support of athletes with intellectual disabilities.
In a statement on Thursday, the Acting National Director of Special Olympics Zimbabwe, John Muringani said the Golf Day marks the beginning of the journey toward the 2026 National Games, which will be held at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo.
“The road to the 2026 National Games begins now. This Golf Day is the first critical step in ensuring that every athlete who dreams of competing has the opportunity to do so,” he said.
The funds raised will assist in covering key expenses such as athlete kits, equipment, transport and the event will feature a full tournament, fun on course challenges, and an awards ceremony afterwards.
SOZ is part of the global Special Olympics movement, which uses sport to transform the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
The organisation provides year round sports training and competitions, helping athletes build physical fitness and courage.
Muringani emphasized the importance of inclusion in sports and said the initiative will assist in changing lives.
“This is more than just a golf event, it is a movement for inclusion and empowerment. Our athletes deserve the chance to shine, and every contribution brings them closer to that goal,” he said.
