Harare, (New Ziana) — Zimbabwe took a leading role on the international stage over the weekend as it participated in the 13th International Sports Forum in Samara, led by Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe.
Posting on its National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) X handle, Government said the high-profile event, attended by delegates from over 51 nations including Russia, celebrated the unifying power of sport in promoting peace, inclusion, and international cooperation.
“Zimbabwe was prominently represented at the 13th International Sports Forum in Samara, led by Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe.
“The event, attended by over 51 nations including Russia, emphasized the unifying power of sports. Sanyatwe reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to cooperate closely with Russia in sports and cultural exchanges, highlighting the nation’s investments in athlete development and infrastructure to bolster global competitiveness,” said the Government.
In his address, Minister Sanyatwe reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Russia and other countries through sports and cultural exchanges. He highlighted the Government’s ongoing investments in athlete development, modern sports infrastructure, and community-based initiatives aimed at enhancing global competitiveness.
“The Government of Zimbabwe recognises sport as a vital tool for youth empowerment, national pride, and international friendship,” Sanyatwe said, underscoring the country’s dedication to expanding opportunities for all citizens to participate and excel in sports.
He also presented the National Sports and Recreation Strategy 2025, a comprehensive framework designed to nurture sporting talent from a young age, ensure equal access to facilities, and support athletes’ holistic development.
The strategy, he noted, places particular emphasis on empowering children and marginalized groups to unlock their potential through sport.
Discussions at the forum centred on advancing sport diplomacy and fostering international partnerships to drive sustainable development. Participating nations pledged to deepen collaboration and leverage sport as a catalyst for peace, cultural understanding, and economic growth.
The event concluded with renewed optimism for future cooperation, as countries expressed a shared commitment to using sport as a bridge between nations.
Zimbabwe’s active participation, observers noted, reflects its growing influence in global sports diplomacy and its determination to position sport as a key pillar of national development and international engagement.
