    President Mnangagwa removes Chitando as Mines Minister

    Harare, (New Ziana)— President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa on Monday relieved Winston Chitando of his duties as Minister of Mines and Mining Development and appointed his deputy, Polite Kambamura as his successor with immediate effect.

    Chief secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya made the announcement in a statement on Monday, citing the constitutional provisions allowing the action.

    “His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, has in terms of Section 340, Subsection (1f), as read with Section 108, Subsection (1)(a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, removed Winston Chitando as Cabinet Minister with immediate effect,” Dr Rushwaya said in the statement.

    He further confirmed the appointment of Polite Kambumura, the former deputy to Chitando, as the new Minister of Mines and Mining Development with immdeiate effect.

    “In terms of Section 104, Subsection (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed Polite Kambamura as Minister of Mines and Mining Development,” said Rushwaya in the statement.

    Rushwaya did not provide further details regarding the removal of Chitando.
