Bulawayo, (New Ziana) – State-owned mobile network operator, Net One, has been commended for its significant contribution to national development through impactful corporate social investment initiatives.

Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Richard Moyo, said Net One had proven that digital connectivity and socio-economic development must advance hand in hand.

He said the telecommunication company, working in partnership with government, has rolled out critical infrastructure across the province, particularly in the education sector, clean water provision through borehole drilling in rural communities, anti-drug abuse campaigns, and the provision of sunscreen for people living with albinism.

“Improved learning spaces and a conducive environment restore dignity to both learners and educators, while affirming the belief that children in rural areas deserve facilities that inspire confidence, pride and hope for the future,” he said.

Moyo added that government is encouraged by Net One’s alignment with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s development philosophy, such as its focus on community-based initiatives that strengthen education and human capital development.

“This initiative speaks directly to the priorities of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which recognises education as a key pillar for sustainable national growth and transformation,” he said.

He described Net One’s efforts as a practical example of development being delivered “tower by tower and brick by brick,” through collaboration between the private sector, communities and government in building a prosperous, inclusive and empowered nation.

Moyo said the government had adopted a deliberate policy ensuring that all communities benefit from local resources, noting that many areas in Matabeleland North had lagged behind in development in the past.

“The new development approach ensures that no place and no one is left behind,” he said.
