Wild Horizons Development is making a tangible impact on rural communities in Matabeleland North through strategic projects aimed at driving sustainable growth and improving access to quality education.

The organisation recently handed over a new classroom block at Monde Primary School and announced plans to construct additional classroom blocks at Chidobe Secondary School and Sizane Secondary School.

Ms. Barbra Murasiranwa, Wild Horizons’ Business Development and Corporate Affairs Director, detailed the organisation’s ongoing initiatives.

“We work with many schools and support the communities where we operate. At Sizinda, we will build a classroom block, as well as at Chidobe. Each of these blocks will cost US$30,000, while the Monde Primary block cost US$32,000, plus US$7,000 to furnish,” she said.

Ms. Murasiranwa added that Wild Horizons also pays school fees for 200 children across 44 schools, has drilled more than 12 boreholes, and built 64 bio-digesters to curb deforestation.

“Our goal is to transform the lives of children in rural communities,” she said.

The organisation’s projects align with government efforts to bridge the rural-urban education gap, bringing modern facilities and technologies to schools that have long faced infrastructural challenges.

A parent, Ms. Tembo expressed her gratitude, noting the significant relief the new classroom block provides.

“Space for learners has been a constant challenge, and this burden has been lifted. I pray that quality education will be delivered here, and that it will transform lives. I encourage fellow head teachers to modernise their learning spaces,” she said.

The handover ceremony attracted dignitaries and community members, who welcomed the initiative as a milestone for local development.

Councilor for the area, Mr. Moyo praised Wild Horizons for their commitment to rural communities.

“We are grateful for this support and hope it inspires other partners to uplift our schools. Education is vital, and we look forward to more projects, including schools and clinics, in our ward,” he said.

Through such initiatives, Wild Horizons continues to demonstrate the critical role of private sector involvement in enhancing rural education and community development.
