Forceful pressure applied by substitute Junior Zindoga at the death broke the deadlock to gift Zimbabwe’s Warriors rare silverware, edging Zambia in the Mukuru Four Nations tournament this evening.
Until then the two rivals had stood neck to neck in the regional tournament final at Obed Chilume Stadium in Francistown.
Zindoga, who turns out for TS Galaxy in South Africa (as pictured) and was making only his second appearance in national colours, entered the fray in the 64th min for an injured Jarrison Selemani who himself was also a second half substitute.
The St George’s College alumnus’ relentless probing resulted in a Zambian defender beating his own goalkeeper in the 88th min.
The contest was as good as over then with coach Marian Mario Marinica earning the first feather in his cap.
The Romanian mentor showed he meant business from the semi-final when his charges floored hosts Botswana 3-0 with goals from Bill Antonio, Mongameli Tshuma and Macauley Bonne.
Bonne had the ball in the net midway in the first half, heading past a stranded Zambian keeper from Tshuma’s inch-perfect cross, but the effort was ruled offside
