Harare, (New Ziana) -The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has disbursed US$32 388 822.03 and ZWG 296 361 565.17 to farmers, representing 88 percent and 83 percent of obligations in foreign and local currency respectively, due to farmers for deliveries.
In a statement, GMB chief executive officer Dr Edison Badarai said the move marked a significant step in supporting the agricultural sector and strengthening food security in the country.
“This vital funding by the Treasury brings much-needed relief to farmers,” he said.
Badarai said the payments are expected to enable farmers to reinvest in production and prepare for upcoming agricultural activities.
He said the financial support highlights continued Government commitment to agriculture, which remains a cornerstone of the Zimbabwean economy, adding that timely payments are critical in sustaining farmer confidence and boosting productivity across the sector.
Badarai also commended the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development for its efforts in mobilising Treasury resources to support farmers.
“GMB remains committed to working closely with farmers to enhance national food security and ensure sustainable agricultural growth,” he said.
Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Zimbabwe, providing livelihoods for the majority of the population while supplying raw materials to industry.
