HARARE, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested several suspects in separate incidents across the country involving unlawful possession of explosives, cultivation of dagga and possession of contraband substances.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to unlawful possession of explosives in incidents recorded in Matabeleland South, Mashonaland East and Midlands provinces.
Reason Sibanda (49), Zibusiso Sibanda (28) and Prosper Chaora (41) were arrested at Stella City F12 Mine in Kezi on May 8 after they were allegedly found in possession of explogels and a safety cord.
In a separate incident on the same day, Fungai Kanyasa (44) was arrested at Guyu Business Centre in Maramba, Murewa, for unlawful possession of emulates and igniting fuses.
Meanwhile, Munyaradzi Mbizi (36) was arrested in Kwekwe on May 9 for unlawful possession of detonator fuses.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of five suspects in connection with unlawful possession of explosives in separate incidents across the country. Reason Sibanda (49), Zibusiso Sibanda (28) and Prosper Chaora (41) were arrested at Stella City F12 Mine, Kezi on 08/05/26 for unlawful possession of explogels and a safety cord,” said Nyathi.
Nyathi also confirmed the arrest of Reason Mpande (41) by detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit in Bulawayo following a tip-off linking him to unlawful possession and cultivation of dagga.
Detectives reportedly searched the suspect’s workplace and recovered loose dagga before he led them to his residence, where a field of the illegal crop was allegedly discovered.
In another incident, Nyathi said police in Kwekwe intercepted a bus at Hwedza Turn-off on May 8 and arrested Garikai Guruvaza (47) for illegal possession of contraband Astra Pain Cough Syrup.
Nyathi said investigations into all the cases are continuing and urged members of the public to continue supplying information that assists law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
