MUTARE-The Africa Travel Indaba 2026, one of the continent’s largest travel and tourism trade shows, is currently underway in Durban from 11–14 May 2026, with Zimbabwe seizing the opportunity to market Destination Zimbabwe to a global audience.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa, joined fellow African Tourism Ministers and Deputy Ministers at a prestigious Ministers Dinner hosted by South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille. The high-level gathering underscored the growing spirit of regional cooperation in driving Africa’s tourism growth story forward.
Zimbabwe has arrived with a formidable presence, fielding a delegation of 44 tourism operators who are showcasing the country’s rich and diverse offerings. From the thundering cascades of Victoria Falls to the misty peaks of the Eastern Highlands, from the wildlife-rich plains of Hwange National Park to the ancient stone ruins of Great Zimbabwe, the country is presenting itself as a competitive and attractive destination.
The Indaba has attracted impressive numbers this year, with 999 buyers from 44 countries, 1,225 exhibitors, and representatives from 18 airlines. This vast marketplace presents immense opportunities for Zimbabwean operators to secure business deals, attract investment, and expand market access beyond traditional source markets.
The Indaba provides a strategic platform for networking, deal making, and destination branding. For Zimbabwean operators, the event is a critical opportunity to reconnect with international buyers, showcase new products, and position the country as a key player in Africa’s post-pandemic tourism resurgence.
As the Indaba continues through Thursday, Zimbabwe’s delegation is expected to hold multiple bilateral meetings and pitch sessions, with early indicators pointing to strong buyer interest in safari circuits, luxury travel packages, and cultural heritage tours.
With regional cooperation strengthening and private sector participation growing, Zimbabwe is positioning itself not merely as a participant but as a driving force in Africa’s tourism transformation. The Africa Travel Indaba 2026, now in full swing, offers the perfect stage for that message to resonate across the globe.
