HARARE – Convicted murderer and former CID officer Jaison Muvevi of Ruzane Village in Wedza has been sentenced by the High Court to four life sentences plus an additional 40 years in prison for four counts of murder and attempted murder linked to the 2022–2023 shooting spree in Harare, Wedza, and Mutare.
The case drew national attention after Muvevi killed four people, including Inspector Maxwell Hove, and injured several others before fleeing to Mozambique, where he was later arrested and extradited to Zimbabwe.
During trial proceedings, Muvevi’s defence argued that he was mentally unstable and claimed he had been haunted by “goblins” or evil spirits at the time of the killings. However, psychiatric evaluations eventually found him fit to stand trial.
