Harare, (New Ziana)- The ongoing debate on the Constitutional Amendment Bill number three is getting closer to the voting stage as more legislators on Thursday debated on the proposed law in the National Assembly.
The decisive vote is expected later this week in the National Assembly.
The debate which adjourned just before 2000 hours (Thursday) is expected to resume on Friday to allow more legislators to submit their views to the Bill and its provisions.
Thursday’s debate saw Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change legislator for Matabeleland South Sipho Dube joining other MPs to support the electoral Bill to be passed into law.
“I support this Bill through the eyes of the future generations, she said adding that she backed the transfer of the voters roll from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to the Registrar General’s office.
“Let us leave ZEC to conduct voter education,” she said.
She also supported voting for the Head of State through an electoral college system.
MP for Zvishavane Mecky Jaravavaza said his constituents backed the term extension from five to seven years as well as the transfer of the voters roll to the Registrar General.
Winstone Chitando, MP for Gutu Central further supported the amendment especially selection of the President through an electoral college.
Other MPs who supported the Bill include Gokwe Nembudziya MP Flora Buka , Goromonzi South MP Paddington Zhanda , Harare South MP Trymore Kanopula, Tasara Hungwe , MP for Mberengwa East, Trymore Mudovo from Mashonaland East , Buhera West MP Tafadzwa Mugwadi , Mutsawashe Ziyambi, Youth Representative for Mashonaland West Province and Chiredzi East ‘s Siyaki Mundungehama among others.
Only Opposition MPs Lynette Karenyi, Zengeza East’ s Chingaira , Masvingo Urban legislator Mureru and Glen Norah representative Wellington Chikombo had reservations for the Bill.
