Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified operations against criminal activities across the country, leading to arrests linked to illicit alcohol production, drug trafficking and ongoing investigations into fatal road traffic accidents.

In a statement, national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nythi said in Harare, police arrested two foreign nationals, Gan Chen (52) and Peng Yujun (52), for allegedly manufacturing and distributing illicit alcoholic beverages in the Msasa Industrial area.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Gan Chen (52) and Peng Yujun (52) for manufacturing and distributing illicit alcoholic beverages in Msasa Industrial area, Harare.

The suspects are facing charges which include contravening sections of the Harmful Liquids Act, Chapter 9:10, Foods and Food Standards Labelling Regulations, Factory and Works Act, Chapter 14: 08, Environmental Management (Control of Hazardous Substances) and Shop Licensing Act, Chapter 14:17,” said Nyathi.

During the operation, he said, police recovered several illicit substances believed to be Vodka, Spirits and Wine. Authorities also seized equipment allegedly used in the illegal production process, including bottling machines, a distillation tanker, boiler, separator and related manufacturing apparatus.

He said investigations are continuing to establish the extent of the operation and determine possible distribution networks.

In a separate case, police in Beitbridge intercepted a Toyota Passo vehicle at Makakabule Cemetery on June 22, 2026, leading to the arrest of Delight Mukoki (23) and Premore Nyandoro (23).

“On 22 June, 2026, police in Beitbridge intercepted a Toyota Passo vehicle at Makakabule Cemetery and arrested the occupants, Delight Mukoki (23) and Premore Nyandoro (23) in connection with unlawful possession of 23 boxes X 50 x 100 ml Broncleer Cough Syrup,” he said, adding that further investigations into the intended destination and use of the recovered consignment were in progress.

Meanwhile, Nyathi also confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 195-kilometre peg along the Harare–Masvingo Road on June 22, 2026, in which two people died while five others sustained injuries after a Harare-bound Yutong bus carrying 65 passengers rammed into the rear of a stationary Mann TGS440 truck that had reportedly developed a mechanical fault and was parked by the roadside.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mvuma Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Police have also appealed to members of the public for information that may assist investigations into two hit-and-run accidents.

The first incident occurred at the 420-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road near the Chisuma turn-off, where a 37-year-old man died on the spot after being struck by an unidentified vehicle. The driver allegedly fled the scene without rendering assistance.

In another incident, a 39-year-old man sustained injuries after being hit by an unidentified vehicle at the two-kilometre peg along the Kadoma–Eiffel Flats Road on June 19, 2026. The motorist also failed to stop following the collision.

The ZRP has urged anyone with information that may assist investigations in the hit-and-run cases to report to their nearest police station.
