Harare, (New Ziana) – Police launched a nationwide appeal on Wednesday for information leading to the arrest of prominent political activist, Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba VeShanduko, for allegedly undermining their authority.
In a statement, police spokesperson, Paul Nyathi said the police were looking for Karembera, a political activist associated with the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change party (CCC).
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is seeking information on the location and whereabouts of Madzibaba ‘Veshanduko’ Godfrey Karembera in connection with reports of undermining police authority,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
He appealed to members of the public with information to report to their nearest police station.
The brief statement did not indicate when and where the alleged offence was committed, or whether any formal charges had already been laid against Karembera. Police also did not provide details of the alleged conduct that undermined their authority.
Popularly known as Madzibaba VeShanduko – a name that loosely translates to “Prophet of Change” – he gained national prominence through his distinctive yellow apostolic-style robes and energetic presence at opposition political gatherings.
A farmer from Guruve, he rose to prominence as a supporter and mobiliser at CCC events before the party’s internal changes in recent years.
His activism has frequently brought him into confrontation with law enforcement. Since 2022, Karembera has been arrested on several occasions over various allegations linked to public disorder, making him a recognizable opposition figure.
Most recently, Karembera spent about eight months in pre-trial detention before being acquitted by a Harare magistrate in June 2026 after the court ruled that the State had failed to produce sufficient evidence to sustain charges related to incitement to commit public violence.
Wednesday’s police appeal marks the latest development involving the activist, although authorities have not indicated whether the current matter is connected to any previous cases or constitutes a new investigation.
