JOHANNESBURG – Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma will remain in custody after abandoning his bail application when he appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, with the matter now postponed to August 27, 2026.
Tshuma personally informed the court that he was waiving his right to apply for bail for the time being, resulting in the case being remanded while investigations continue.
The State told the court that investigations are yet to be finalised, with crucial evidence still outstanding. Among the pending evidence are chain statements and ballistic results, which prosecutors said are necessary before the matter can proceed.
During the proceedings, State prosecutor Mr Mbobo proposed that Tshuma’s next court appearance be conducted virtually.
However, defence lawyer Mr Machingura opposed the proposal, arguing that he had not yet fully consulted with his client and that an in-person appearance was necessary to facilitate effective engagement with both his client and the prosecution.
The court agreed that Tshuma should be physically produced in court or made available for any consultations required before the next hearing.
Following the proceedings, Tshuma was escorted back into police custody, where he will remain until his next scheduled court appearance on August 27.
