HARARE – Four members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) have died while three others were injured in a road traffic accident involving a military vehicle along the Harare-Mutare Road.

The accident occurred on Friday at the 45km peg along the highway when the BAW military vehicle carrying the soldiers was involved in the crash while travelling from Harare to Mutare.

The deceased soldiers have been identified as Warrant Officer Class 1 Philimon Chamisa, Warrant Officer Class 2 Chindowa Lydia, Sergeant Mundicho Wellington Wonder and Lance Corporal Mupemhi Edmore.

In a statement, the ZNA confirmed the deaths and said two of the injured soldiers were admitted at Marondera District Hospital, while another was receiving treatment at the 2 Referral Hospital at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks.

“The ZNA extends its deepest condolences to the families, relatives, friends and colleagues of the four members who lost their lives in this tragic accident. May their souls rest in eternal peace,” said the army.

The ZNA also wished the injured members a speedy recovery as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

Authorities are expected to release further details once investigations have been completed, while burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
