Renco Mine — One of the notorious Mutimurefu Prison escapees, James Masunda(left), has been arrested in the Renco area of Masvingo Rural following a shootout with detectives from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Masunda was reportedly apprehended yesterday (August 14) after detectives tracked him down in the area.
Sources close to the operation said police used Masunda’s wife to lure him out of hiding before the detectives moved in.
According to the sources, Masunda was shot and seriously injured during the ensuing confrontation while he was in a bush hideout.
He was subsequently arrested and is currently receiving treatment under police guard at Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
Police have been conducting investigations and a manhunt for the Mutimurefu Prison escapees following their reported escape.
