THE Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (MCZ) has been plunged into mourning following the untimely passing of the wife of the Presiding Bishop, Reverend Simbarashe Sithole, who passed away upon arrival at Auckland Airport in New Zealand on Monday.

Mrs Adalaide Sithole, who was the President of the MCZ Ruwadzano Manyano and the Girls Christian Union (GCU), had travelled to attend the 15th World Assembly of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women.

The conference is taking place from August 25–30, 2026, at the Due Drop Events Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, under the theme “Arise and Shine — for the glory of the Lord is upon you.”

MCZ General Secretary Revd Likhai Molife confirmed Mrs Sithole’s death in a notice to church members.

“A dark cloud has befallen us. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our devout leader, Mrs A. Sithole—wife of our Presiding Bishop, Revd Simbarashe Sithole, and President of Ruwadzano Manyano and the GCU,” said the General Secretary.

“Our deepest condolences go to Presiding Bishop Revd S. Sithole, her children, relatives, friends, ecumenical colleagues, and the entire Methodist community.”

Revd Molife described Mrs Sithole as a dedicated leader and “mother” who held key positions, including President of Ruwadzano Manyano and the GCU.

He conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the church to Presiding Bishop Sithole, their children, relatives, friends, and the broader Methodist and ecumenical communities, expressing profound sadness at the loss of such a revered figure.

Details regarding funeral arrangements have yet to be released. Mourners are are gathered at 137 Harare Drive, Marlborough, Harare.
