MASVINGO – The installation of Last Davakwe as the substantive Chief Nyajena is scheduled for Thursday, 27 August 2026, at Tugwane High School in Masvingo District.
The ceremony was originally scheduled for 22 August but was postponed and has since been rescheduled, according to an invitation issued by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garwe.
Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, has been invited to officiate at the ceremony as the Guest of Honour.
Chief Davakwe was appointed as the substantive Chief Nyajena by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on 27 April this year.
In a letter dated 24 August, Minister Garwe confirmed the new date and invited Minister Chadzamira to preside over the installation.
The letter also notified the President and Deputy President of the National Council of Chiefs, the Chairperson of the Masvingo Provincial Assembly, and the Acting Director for Local Government Services about the forthcoming ceremony.
The installation is part of a series of traditional leadership ceremonies being held in Masvingo Province this month.
Chief Nemamwa was installed on 20 August, while Chief Muroyi was installed the following day.
The installation of Chief Nyajena is expected to bring together government officials, traditional leaders, community representatives, and other stakeholders.
Traditional leaders remain key partners in community development, the preservation of cultural values, dispute resolution, and the mobilisation of communities to support national development programmes.
