With the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League entering its final stretch, the battle at the foot of the table has developed into a tense relegation dogfight, with Agama FC, Triangle United, TelOne, and Manica Diamonds currently occupying the four positions that would demote teams from the top flight.
The Matchday 29 log makes for uncomfortable reading for the quartet, with only five matches remaining and a maximum of 15 points available.
Agama are currently best placed among the bottom four with 25 points, sitting 15th, while Triangle United are on 22 points in 16th. TelOne have 21 points in 17th, with Manica Diamonds rooted at the bottom with 19 points.
The four clubs are separated by just six points, meaning the situation could still change significantly before the final whistle of the 2026 campaign.
Agama’s position has become increasingly precarious after losing 3-0 to Scottland on Saturday. The defeat left them with 25 points, only six ahead of bottom-placed Manica Diamonds.
Triangle, meanwhile, moved to 22 points after a 1-1 draw with Bulawayo Chiefs, while TelOne picked up a valuable point in a 2-2 draw against Ngezi Platinum Stars to reach 21.
For Manica Diamonds, the situation became even more desperate after a 1-0 defeat to FC Hunters at Rufaro Stadium. The Gem Boys remain at the bottom with 19 points and a negative goal difference of -30.
The relegation battle is not, however, confined to the current bottom four.
FC Hunters, with 31 points, and ZPC Kariba, with 29, are within touching distance of the danger zone. With five rounds remaining, both sides must keep collecting points to avoid being dragged into the survival battle.
The current standings show how little room there is for complacency. A single victory is worth three points and could dramatically alter the order, while a defeat could leave one of the struggling sides staring at a deeper crisis.
For Manica Diamonds, the mathematics are particularly unforgiving. They are six points behind Agama and four behind TelOne, while Triangle are three points ahead. Their goal difference of -30 could also become significant if teams finish level on points.
TelOne’s position is equally delicate. The Gweru side was once among the league’s surprise performers, finishing fifth last season, but they have spent much of the current campaign battling to stay afloat. Club chief executive Lawrence Nkala previously acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, saying the club needed to fight for survival.
Triangle’s battle has an added dimension, as they already experienced relegation in recent seasons before returning to the top flight. The Lowveld side now has five matches to protect their PSL status.
Agama, one of the newcomers, is also facing the challenge of securing top-flight football for another season. Their six-point cushion over Manica Diamonds offers some breathing space, but with 15 points still available, it is far from decisive.
The four-team relegation system means the bottom four at the conclusion of the season will be relegated, making the final five rounds particularly significant. ZIFA previously confirmed the four-team relegation framework, and this season’s relegation battle has since narrowed to the clubs at the bottom of the table.
The remaining fixtures will therefore carry the weight of cup finals for the teams involved. Every goal, every point, and potentially every goal-difference calculation could prove decisive.
For now, Agama, Triangle, TelOne, and Manica Diamonds occupy the drop zone—but none has yet been mathematically condemned. Five games remain, and the fight to stay in Zimbabwe’s top flight is wide open.
The next five matchdays will determine who survives and who makes the painful journey out of the PSL.
