President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to address the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York today, Thursday, as Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its engagement with the international community.
The President is scheduled to deliver his address during the morning session of the High-Level General Debate at around 3pm Zimbabwean time.
This year’s debate is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All,” bringing together world leaders to deliberate on pressing global challenges and explore ways of strengthening international cooperation.
President Mnangagwa’s address comes at a significant juncture for Zimbabwe following the country’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The development provides Zimbabwe with an opportunity to advance its foreign policy priorities, contribute to international peace and security discussions, and strengthen cooperation with other member states.
The President’s participation is also expected to reaffirm Zimbabwe’s commitment to multilateralism and the pursuit of solutions to global challenges through dialogue and collective action.
The UN General Debate remains a key platform for member states to present their national perspectives, outline development priorities and engage on matters affecting the international community.
