MASVINGO City Mayor, Councillor Aleck Tabe, officially launched the 2026 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund on Thursday, announcing an ambitious target of US$30,000 for this year’s campaign.
Mayor Tabe called on businesses, financial institutions, hospitality providers, educational institutions, community organisations, and all residents to unite in this year’s spirit of generosity and support for the city’s less privileged.
The Christmas Cheer Fund has become a cherished tradition on Masvingo City’s calendar, bringing the community together each year to share with institutions and families in need.
“It gives me great pleasure to officially launch the 2026 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund, a noble initiative that seeks to bring hope, joy, dignity, and practical support to the most vulnerable members of our community during the Christmas festive season. This year, our target is to raise US$30,000,” said Mayor Tabe.
“The Christmas Cheer Fund has become part of an important tradition in our city. It reflects our collective commitment to caring for those who face significant challenges in their daily lives. It reminds us that, as a community, we are stronger when we stand together and ensure that no one is left behind.”
Institutions set to benefit from the fund include Copota Primary School, Copota Secondary School, Henry Murray School, Ratidzo Zimcare Trust, Mazorodze Maternity Home, and Ngomahuru.
Mayor Tabe said that to raise resources for this worthy cause, several fundraising events have been lined up: pool games to be held on 17 October, a schools swimming gala on 21 October, a marathon on 15 November, a golf tournament on 27 November, and the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund Dinner on 10 December.
“The success of the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund depends on your support. I wish to recognise and appreciate our key stakeholders and sponsors who continue to support this worthy cause. The generosity of the business community, hotels, schools, and individual donors will anchor our fundraising efforts. Your contributions—whether financial, material, or through participation in our fundraising events—make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable members of our community,” he said.
“Every dollar donated, every sponsorship secured, and every participant in our events contributes to restoring hope and dignity to children, the elderly, patients, persons with disabilities, foster families, and other vulnerable groups in our community. Let us make the 2026 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund a resounding success by embracing the principle that a caring community leaves no one behind.”
