Harare (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday wrote to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to wish him speedy recovery from coronavirus.

The British premier was on Monday taken into intensive care in hospital for more rigorous treatment after his Covid-19 infection got worse.

He had previously self-isolated himself at home after testing positive for the virus a week ago, but his condition appeared to deteriorate in the last few days.

On Monday, his office said he had been transferred to hospital, and put on an oxygen mask to help him breath.

In his letter, President Mnangagwa expressed hope of Johnson’s speedy recovery, to enable him to return to running the British government.

“I am truly sorry to learn that you have been hospitalised in the course of fighting Coronavirus (CVID-19). On behalf of the government and people of Zimbabwe, and indeed on my own behalf, I extend to you our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery,” he said.

“In wishing you well, Right Honourable Prime Minister, we express our earnest hope that you will soon be fit, so you may successfully carry out your onerous duties as the leader of Her Majesty’s government,” he said.

He thanked Johnson for the British government’s assistance to the country in its fight against Covid-19, particularly the Sterling Pounds 35.4 million that London has given to Zimbabwe for the purpose.

He said the government had put in place measures to ensure that all the British assistance reached the intended beneficiaries.
