Harare (New Ziana) – Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa on Wednesday consoled the Sadza family following the death of the founding chairman of the Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust, Dr Davidson Sadza.

She described Dr Sadza, who died in Harare on Wednesday, as one of the pioneer leaders of Zimbabwe’s media industry.

“Dr Sadza played a pivotal role in transforming the media landscape after independence when he was appointed early in 1981 as the first chairman of the newly formed Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust. The trust took over controlling interests in Zimbabwe Newspapers, Ziana and Kingstons Holdings,” she said.

“As its first chairman, Dr Sadza was entrusted with the responsibility of aligning the media sector to the aspirations of the newly independent nation, Zimbabwe. He was brought into the top post not as a media expert but as someone who could see and articulate what the media had to do to serve the people of the infant republic.”

Mutsvangwa added: “Dr Sadza oversaw the vast expansion in media coverage. He was also passionate about media standards and integrity and he demanded the same.”

By profession, Dr Sadza was a medical Doctor.
