Masvingo, (New Ziana) – Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Ezra Chadzamira has urged local authorities in the province to widely consult people in their jurisdictions for input in deciding what projects were to be prioritised for financing using devlotion funds.

He said the devolution funds from government were not councils’, and therefore they did not have the decisive say on their use, but the communities at large.

Chadzamira also emphasised proper budgeting for identified projects, and completion of these before councils embarked on new ones.

“All the councils should consult the people on the projects that they want to undertake. Devolution money is not for council, it’s not for them to undertake their own interests such as to build their administration blocks, pay salaries or buy cars. It is the people’s money. Before they make any budget they must consult because if you engage the people, they will protect the projects from harm,” he said.

Chadzamira also urged the councils to detach politics from community projects, saying devolution funding was meant to cater for everyone irrespective of political affiliation.

“When it comes to development, whether MDC or ZANU (PF) people need to put differences aside and see that they develop their areas,” he said.
