Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Commission (Zera) on Saturday increased prices of fuel by as high as 19 percent per litre.

In its monthly price review, Zera said the price of diesel, in local currency, had gone up to $97.24 from $82.05 and to US$1.19 from US$1.

Petrol on the other hand, is up by ZWL$0.33 to $97.44 but remains unchanged in US dollar at $1.19 per litre.

“Operators may however, sell at prices below the cap, depending on their trading advantages,” the energy regulator said.

Fuel, which had been scarce for years, has become widely available after government allowed sellers to sell in foreign currency and also pegged the local currency price to the floating exchange rate.

Motorists have however registered concern on the apparent fuel shortage at stations selling the commodity in local currency while it is largely available at those selling in foreign currency.
