Masvingo (New Ziana) – The Masvingo City Council has said the country’s road authority had earmarked $40 million next year for the city to repair and upgrade its roads.
Some of the roads in the city, particularly in residential areas, were in a poor state, and the situation had been aggravated by the ongoing heavy rains.
The city’s Public Works and Planning Committee said the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (Zinara) had allocated a total of $43 628 127 to Masvingo next year for road repairs and maintenance.
This, it said, will cover five kilometres of roads, and include repair of other infrastructure such as cleaning and unblocking drainage systems in the city’s 10 wards.
Among areas targeted were Chesvingo, Mucheke, Runyararo, Target Kopje, Rujeko, Central Business District and Morningside.
