Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Kembo Mohadi on Monday resigned from his post after three years in office following a string of alleged illicit affairs with married women.

This becomes the first resignation in the presidency since independence in 1980 after morality scandal.

Mohadi, in his resignation letter, maintained his innocence.
“Hard as it maybe to my family, friends and comrades, and cadres of my party, Zanu PF, I am taking the decision to step down as the Vice President of Zimbabwe, to save the image of my government,” Mohadi said.

“My decision to relinquish the Vice President post is also a way of respecting the citizens of this great nation, my party comrades some of who have been affected by the falsehoods and character assassination in the digital ecosystems.”

In recorded telephone conversations with at least four women that were brought to the public domain by an online news website, ZimLive.com, the former VP, who has insisted his voice was cloned, is heard planning sex escapades.

Mohadi, who said he needed space “to deal with my problems outside the governance chair,” said he would pursue legal remedies to address the scandal, insisting he was a victim of “information distortion, voice cloning, and sponsored spooking, and political sabotage.”

“My resignation is also necessitated by my desire to seek clarity and justice on the matter in which my legal team will pursue and deconstruct this pseudo-paparrazi and flawed espionage to achieve cheap political points,” he said.

Mohadi thanked President Mnangagwa for the opportunity he had been given to take a lead role in the leadership of the country.

ZimLive.com Editor, Mduduzi Mathuthu, said last week the publication was ready to face the former VP in court over the matter.
