THE Gate Football Academy Under 17 team wrote its own piece of history, by whitewashing visiting Cheziya Football Academy from Gokwe 35-0 victory in a friendly match played at Mbizo Stadium last weekend.
This means there was a goal every two minutes bearing in mind of the seconds wasted in celebrations and kick off.
This overwhelming win marks a historic moment for the academy, serving as its season opener and a strong statement of intent as the team prepares for upcoming tournaments in Kwekwe district.
Young sensation Raphael Tavonga stole the show by leading the scoring charts with an impressive seven goals, while teammate Marodona Gate contributed five goals.
“I believe in my boys; they can overcome any challenge that comes their way. This was just our first match of the season, and we are excited about the road ahead,” said Simbarashe Gate, the founder and head coach of the academy.
Founded in 2005 when Simbarashe Gate was still a player for Masvingo United, Gate Football Academy has evolved into a formidable presence within the Kwekwe Junior Football League. The academy has a track record of nurturing talent, having produced promising players such as Takudzwa Masendeke, who played for Mvuma Stars last season.
“Our mission is clear: to groom and nurture young players with the potential to play internationally,” added Simbarashe Gate, also a former striker for Lancashire Steel and Highlanders FC.
With such a strong foundation and a vision for the future, Gate Football Academy is poised to continue making waves in the world of youth football.
