Harare, January 31, 2020 (New Ziana)- Acting President Kembo Mohadi on Friday held talks with Cuban ambassador Carmelina Ramirez Rodriquez, with the diplomat reiterating Havana’s desire to maintain strong relations with Zimbabwe.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Cuban ambassador said she was satisfied with the level of cooperation between Cuba and Zimbabwe.
The two countries co-operate, among other areas, in the field of health and education.

“We were discussing how to increase our cooperation, we have cooperation in health and in education. At the Bindura University of Science Education, we have some professors and also our doctors that are around the country,” Rodriquez said.

She hinted at the possibility of Cuba increasing the number of medical practitioners deployed to Zimbabwe.

“We have doctors everywhere in Africa so we consider that our cooperation in health is very important to help Zimbabwe, to support the people of Zimbabwe.”

Currently, there are 57 Cuban doctors stationed at government hospitals countrywide.

The government has since indicated that it was keen to recruit more specialist doctors from Cuba to fill gaps in public health institutions.

Over the years, Cuba has trained Zimbabwean doctors and teachers here and in Cuba. More than 3 000 teachers alone have benefited under the programme.
