    Another clinic in Goromonzi

    MARONDERA– Courtesy of devolution funds, the Goromonzi Rural District Council (RDC) constructing a clinic in the district’s Ward 20 as the Government continue to make commendable strides in transforming the health sector.

    Construction of the clinic is expected to make a lasting impression to people in the ward and surrounding areas in the resettlement area, who are currently walking for long distances to near health facilities.

    Now at the roofing stage, the clinic is expected to be completed in the second quarter of this year. Members of the community are in unison in calling for the clinic to be completed sooner rather than later.

    Goromonzi RDC chairperson Councilor Golden Aaron Shamu wished for the clinic’s construction phase to be expedited.

    “We wish for the clinic to be completed earlier than expected. As a community, we are liaising with all responsible authorities and the availing of devolution funds have made it easier for the realisation of this project. Devolution funds aiding local authorities to develop communities,” Shamu said.

    Beneficiaries of the clinic appealed to authorities to speed-up construction so that they can stop walking for long distances to the next clinic.

    A local resident, Sam Chari said: “I have lived in this area for many years and there are many challenges that we have been facing especially on health. We are excited that the council is constructing this clinic and hopefully, the responsible authorities will expedite the whole process. We are currently walking for long distances to get medical assistance,” he said.

    Last week, the Minister of Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itayi Ndudzo visited the construction site to check on the progress made to date.

    Addressing the media, Advocate Ndudzo said: “I appreciate the good job that is being done here in Ward 20. Goromonzi is the largest district in terms of population size in Mashonaland East province and many people will be assisted at this clinic. I want to thank members of the community and council for working together on the construction of this clinic.”

    Construction of the clinic is being funded by devolution funds and contributions from members of the community.
